Outfit of the Day: Old-Fashioned Christmas Caroling

I haven’t been Christmas caroling since I was a kid, and I’d forgotten how much fun it is! Last Christmas, I went with a whole group and we had a great time. Since they were all trained singers, we had four-part harmony on most of the songs without even using sheet music — it was pretty impressive.

Sweater: Lands End
Skirt: Igigi
Boots: Aerosoles with Boot Bands
Teggings: ReDress NYC
Necklace: Personal collection

This outfit is pretty close to the one I wore to Biltmore House, but with a brown sweater instead of black. (And the skirt does tend to turn with wear, so after a while I end up with the seam right in front.) Again, one of my favorite outfits!

Here’s the outdoor version:

The coat is also from Lands End, and the scarf was made for me by a friend a long time ago. I also had on a Lane Bryant cami under all that, so I was super warm!

Outfit of the Day: Snow Day

What do you wear for a surprise snow day in October? If you’re like me and you overprepare for trips just in case, lots of layers and some surprisingly-great snow boots.

Here’s what I’m wearing:

Sweater: Lands End
Cami: Lane Bryant
Jacket: Lands End
Jeans: Lane Bryant
Boots: Jessica London
Scarf: Handmade
Baseball cap: UNC Tarheels
Camera bag: Lowepro

I’m really, really not a cold weather person, and usually I’m shivering and miserable every time I go outside in winter. I’m finally learning to layer, though, and I was pretty proud of being warm for hours and hours outside here.

Back in October, we got out of DC for a long weekend at Blackwater Falls State Park in West Virginia. We thought there’d only be flurries, so we were pretty surprised to get to the lodge at the state park and discover the forecast was for five inches of snow.

I had brought tons of warm clothing and my new snow boots just in case, thinking I’d be doing more walking around in cold mud than anything else, but the boy hadn’t even brought a coat. He’s half polar bear, I swear. This was a little too cold even for him, so we went to the nearest Wal-Mart (an hour away, in Maryland) and bought him a cheap jacket. *laugh*

At any rate, the snow was great. It started falling in earnest after we got back to the lodge and snowed all night and the next day. And there was no wind, so it was just absolutely a perfect day to be outside. I’m pretty amateur with my video camera to say the least, but I made another little video just of the beautiful snow.
